Understanding U.S.
privacy laws
| This workshop provides an in-depth
introduction to U.S. privacy laws, the various
forms of oversight and the business risks of non-compliance.
For each statute, the workshop examines:
- History - Why and when the
statute was created;
- Application - Who and what
is covered;
- Enforcement - Which regulatory
bodies has oversight, the regulations, and examples
of regulatory actions;
- Compliance - Key compliance
considerations, business risks and best practices;
- Canadian Comparisons - Highlighting
the major differences with privacy laws in Canada;
and
- GAPP - Reviews of the corresponding
measurement criteria as found in the Generally
Accepted Privacy Principles (GAPP).
U.S.
Statutes
This workshop reviews the U.S. Statutes most
likely to impact Canadian corporations operating
in the U.S., including:
- Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act;
- Children's Online Privacy Protection Act;
- Fair Credit Reporting Act;
- Safe Harbor;
- Do-not-call;
- CAN-SPAM; and
- Notification laws, for example SB1386.
In addition to the above, this workshop provides
an introduction to several federal and state laws
that may have an impact on some corporations in
Canada. |
