Lessons Learned from a Major Canadian Privacy Breach

Jin Shin, Legal Counsel at Nymity, received an “Important Notice” letter from an undisclosed source. The letter was address to his brother, who has been deceased for over 15 years. The letter states that his brother’s personal information has been stolen, possibly for the purposes of identity theft. Upon looking into this matter, Mr. Shin discovered that there are number of unanswered questions, including how many individuals are affected and which privacy legislation applies. This case involves outsourcing sensitive personal information relating to employees. In this interview, Mr. Shin provides guidance to organizations that outsource personal information. Interview
