Privacy in QUebec
Jurisdiction
As of September 1, 1994, Quebec's Act Respecting
the Protection of Personal Information in the Private
Sector (PPIPS) legislates how organizations operating
in Quebec manage customer and employee privacy.
As of November 19, 2003 Quebec's Act Respecting
the Protection of Personal Information in the Private
Sector has been deemed substantially
similar to the federal law. The effect of this Exemption
Order is that Part 1 of the Personal Information
Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA)
will not apply to those organizations in the province
of Quebec that are subject to the private sector privacy
legislation for the collection, use and disclosure of
personal information within the province.
