Privacy Policy Toolkit

The Canadian Notice Index (the "Index") is used by privacy officers, lawyers with privacy practices and privacy consultants to create and maintain privacy policies and privacy notices based on the need for Transparency. It provides over 145 privacy policy provisions, each containing the following elements:

      • Policy Consideration - A policy provision formed as an assessment question, for example: "Does the policy address the transfer of personal information across national borders?"

      • Annotation - A discussion on how the Policy Consideration builds trust with consumers, business partners and regulators or how it mitigates organizational privacy risk.

      • Examples - One or two examples from industry leading privacy policies in Canada

      • Source - The source of the Policy Consideration, for example a source could be privacy commissioners' guidelines/findings/orders, a Generally Accepted Privacy Principle (GAPP), a legal authority or a corporate best-practice.

      • CSA Principle - The CSA privacy principle to which the Policy Consideration best aligns.

      • GAPP - The Generally Accepted Privacy Principle (GAPP) to which the Policy Consideration best aligns.

      • Awards - For which year the Policy Considerations was used for Nymity's Awards program.

Each provision is categorized based on building trust or risk mitigation in one of 9 categories.  Learn more
