Demonstrating Accountability Webinar
This online presentation will explore the latest global developments in demonstrating accountability, describe both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of Nymity's Self-Attestation Project and review the "Privacy Maturity Model" framework for demonstrating accountability. The 45 minute webinar is presented in 3 sections:
1. Developments in Demonstrating Accountability
Policies are changing, expectations are increasing- in some jurisdictions there are legislative activities that will result in organizations being legally required to demonstrate accountability. Attend this webinar to understand developing trends around the world that may require organizations to demonstrate accountability to DPAs, Regulators, and Commissioners on-demand. Understand why regulators and law makers are now looking more to accountability, a privacy principle for over 30 years, as a means to improve privacy compliance and understand is the meaning of "accountability on-demand" and how this could impact you.
2. The Nymity Accountability Self-Attestation Project - Phase 2
Nymity has completed Phase 1 of an international project to help enforcement bodies understand whether there is a role for accountability self-attestations when an organization reports the status of their privacy program to its office. The scope of this project included organizations presenting an accountability self-attestation to a DPA, Regulator or Commissioner in a workshop format. Attend this webinar to hear Nymity's observations from the workshops that were held in Europe, Canada, Mexico and the United States and learn about Phase 2 of this project.
3. Demonstrating Accountability with the Privacy Maturity Model
In March 2011, a new framework called the Privacy Maturity Model was announced by the AICPA/CICA and internationally endorsed by the ISACA. The webinar will review this framework and present it as a viable framework for demonstrating accountabilitynot only to internal stakeholders but potentially even to enforcement bodies. This framework was applied during Phase 1 of the Nymity Accountability Self-Attestation Project.

Cost/Benefit Analysis of Implementing Binding Corporate Rules
Is your company interested in Binding Corporate Rules (BCR)? Would you like to assess whether BCR are a good fit for your company? Would you like to understand the real cost? Are you interested in learning how to calculate a return on investment (ROI)? Would you like to compare your privacy program to companies with approved BCR?
With the potential for BCR codification within the upcoming EU Data Protection Regulation, many companies are assessing the value of BCR. The proposed Regulation will require the implementation of a more sophisticated privacy and data protection program much along the lines of a BCR compliance program; these companies believe that as long as they are making the investment, why not realize also the benefits of BCR?
In this webinar, Lokke Moerel of De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek will outline the costs and benefits of implementing BCR. Lokke has a long history with BCR having negotiated the first template form of BCR with the Dutch Data Protection authority in 2003, which has served as a basis for the subsequent Opinions on BCR of the Working Party 29. She has helped many companies implement and obtain approval for their BCR and has recently filed for authorization of the first BCR for Processors. Lokke, with her well known straight-forward presentation style, will advise companies exactly about the pros and cons of a BCR implementation project including what costs and timelines to expect. She will further answer any questions submitted in advance. Attendees may also submit questions during the presentation.
Also, in this webinar, Nymity will present a research project called the Nymity BCR Accountability Study which examined the organizational level of accountability among 10 multinationals that have implemented BCR, both before and after implementing BCR. The companies that participated in the research study are multinationals with a global presence, with headquarters either in the EU or the US, and are of different industry sectors.
Accountability Enforcement in Canada -
Getting Accountability Right and Proving It
Are you interested in accountability enforcement? Do you have operations in Canada and want to determine whether the recent Getting Accountability Right paper is truly a framework that will be used for enforcement? Is there a business case to increase investment in your privacy program? Would you like a free tool that will allow your organization to map its privacy program to the Getting Accountability Right paper and meet one of the toughest expectations in the new framework?
The landscape for enforcement of accountability in Canada has changed. Privacy Commissioners are unhappy with the state of organizations’ privacy programs and have produced an accountability framework that clearly outlines their accountability expectations. But will it be used for enforcement? In this webinar, our speakers will speak to accountability enforcement across Canada and provide an update as to when and where Canadian organizations can expect orders, as well as describe accountability requirements with reporting implications. The speakers will cover the concept of scalability; in other words, what if not all framework expectations have been implemented or even plan to be implemented?
Also, in this webinar, Nymity will present a free compliance mapping spreadsheet that will enable webinar attendees to meet the following accountability expectations:
- map privacy program (policies) to privacy legislation;
- demonstrate due-diligence;
- manage third-parties.
Nymity will also cover some of the key accountability expectations as outlined in the paper.
