While Colombia has had various data protection laws in place for some time, Colombia is in the midst of upgrading its data protection and privacy law into a more rigorous regulatory framework and culture. In doing so, there are important highlights of the timeline and proposed law regulations and regulatory structures for those of us who do business in Colombia to know about, especially in 2011 and 2012. When we know about the time line, the proposed law and regulations then the processes for the regulatory system, compliance becomes much simpler.
