Pressing Privacy Issues May 2008
Dr. Ann Cavoukian, Ph.D. Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario |
You have been a vocal privacy leader for many years. What issue do you see, from your role as Ontario Privacy Commissioner, as the most pressing in today’s environment?
I think the most important thing needed today is a shift in mindset, in terms of how we approach privacy in the context of business and information technology. The traditional approach in the area of business and technology has always been one of privacy vs. security, what I call the zero-sum game.
Other topics of interest in this interview include:
- Coordinating efforts with other provinces and the federal commissioner
- Tools used to pursue the mission of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario
- Examples of why orders might be issued under PHIPA
- Previews of the IAPP Canadian Summit
