Congratulations
Nymity Inc., Canada's leading privacy research
firm, recognizes TransUnion achievement in providing
consumers with clear and complete notice of its
privacy policies and procedures with the 2006
Top Privacy Policies in Canada award.
This is the second year of the privacy survey
and TransUnion has made the list both years.
“We
are honored to be recognized for our work in this
area for the second year in a row,”
said Ken Porter, Canadian president of TransUnion.
“Our commitment to privacy protection
is not a trend, but a constant responsibility
that we strive to improve on a daily basis for
the benefit of the Canadian consumer and our business
customers."
In determining the best privacy policies, Nymity
looked at more than 200 companies in eight key
business sectors (consumer services, telecommunications,
banking, retail, financial services, media, business
services and insurance) and ranked the top performers
in each. Public nomination and research were used
to select between 20 and 30 organizations in each
category for assessment.
Each organization was judged on 63 privacy transparency
considerations found in Nymity’s Canadian
Notice Index. The reasoning behind using transparency
considerations is that Nymity research revealed
that companies with transparent privacy policies
typically invest heavily in privacy management
programs to minimize risk from data compromises
and to ensure compliance with government regulations
and laws.
"TransUnion's privacy policy is complemented
by their online privacy statement which covers
personal information that may be provided through
TransUnion's website. This is excellent
for helping consumers concerned about providing
their personal information over the internet."
said Terry McQuay, President of Nymity. Mr. McQuay
continues: "TransUnion commitment to
privacy is evident as they have one of the most
transparent privacy policies in Canada."
TransUnion has an innovative privacy
notice as they provide a letter from the president
followed by a privacy policy and a online privacy
statement. The policy provides an overview
of TransUnion’s business and explains how
TransUnion collects, uses and discloses the information
that appears in its credit-reporting system and
as part of its credit information business.
Consumers first learns about the business which
provides them with an understanding of why the
personal information is required and how it used.
